Molan is Minglan's second elder sister among the daughters. She is Lin Xiaoniang's daughter. She always compares herself with Minglan and tries to win in everything.

There are two main reasons. First, she grows up with her mother's influence. Her mother teaches her to fight for everything by any means. She thinks she is more beautiful and smarter than Minglan, so she should have a better life. Second, she is very jealous deep inside. She is also a concubine's daughter, but Minglan gets more care from Grandma Sheng and wins more respect from others. She cannot accept that Minglan lives a better life than her.

This kind of comparison makes Molan tired and unhappy all her life. It also leads her to make many wrong choices.
