Minglan first met Gu Tingye when she was still a little girl in Yangzhou. At that time, her eldest sister Hualan was getting married, and the groom's family came to the Sheng house for the wedding ceremony.

Gu Tingye came with the groom's friends. He was good at the traditional arrow-throwing game, and he played to bet on the wedding gift goose. The Sheng family was about to lose the gift and lose face, when young Minglan stepped forward. She calmly took the arrows and competed with Gu Tingye. In the end, she won the game and saved the Sheng family's pride. That was their very first meeting.

Later that night, Minglan's mother had a difficult labor. The midwife ran away secretly, and Minglan rushed out to find a doctor. She ran into Gu Tingye on the dark street. Without hesitation, Gu Tingye helped her look for a doctor and led him back to the Sheng house.

At that time, they were just two strange children to each other. Neither of them imagined that many years later, this person would become the most important partner in their life.

顾廷烨是跟着新郎的朋友一起来的。他擅长投壶，拿盛家的送嫁雁来赌输赢。盛家眼看就要输了雁、丢了脸面，这时候小明兰站了出来。她镇定地拿起箭，跟顾廷烨比了一场。最后，她赢了比赛，保住了盛家的脸面。那就是他们的第一次见面。

当天夜里，明兰的母亲难产。稳婆偷偷跑了，明兰急急忙忙跑出去找大夫。她在黑漆漆的街上撞见了顾廷烨。顾廷烨二话没说，就帮她去找大夫，还领着大夫回盛府。

那时候，他们对彼此来说，只是两个陌生的孩子。谁也没想到，多年以后，这个人会成为自己生命中最重要的伙伴。
